WHAT IS A LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT? Landscape Architecture is a profession that incorporates design, horticulture, earth science, and construction. It includes a broad base of knowledge in both theory and practical application. The profession is regulated in all states and requires licensing and registration by state boards.
WHAT IS THE ECO-ART PROCESS? The Eco-Art process begins with a methodical site review considering land use, circulation throughout, drainage planning, views, privacy, safety, features, and other aspects requested by the client. Conceptual design is rendered and reviewed along with budgeting comparisons. After client agreement, a final design is completed to meet budget boundaries and a level of design detail is produced to communicate to in-house crews. A contract with installation detail is presented to the client for final review and approval before installation begins. The Design/Build process is initiated with the client’s approval of a Design to Build contract. The Eco-Art value proposition and reputation are built on a foundation of trust, honesty, and principled behavior throughout the project life cycle. Eco-Art does not recommend Design-Bid- Build for small projects. This is not a leveraged project delivery system for the client. For larger projects and certain smaller project instances, when specifically requested by clients, Eco-Art does provide Design-for-Bid at a cost plus rate. A retainer for this service is required; and the client is advised of spend out on a bi-weekly basis.
WHAT IS DESIGN/ BUILD? Design/build is a project approach where the design and construction are contracted with a single firm. The process aim is to minimize design, documentation and administration costs; eliminate handoff miscommunications between designer, bidder and builder; streamline delivery; and reduce total project cycle time while maximizing the monies applied to installation. It ensures that the design is constructed to the vision, understanding and agreement of the architect and the client.
WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPE DESIGN? This is a category of design and planning that focuses on lowering the requirements of energy, water, fertilizer, and expense while producing lower outflows of pollution, surface water runoff, and minimizing negative impact.
WHEN IS A SPACE A PLACE? It is a place when it serves the owners purposes, and not the other way around. Outdoor property space is the most underutilized yet burdensome aspect of most properties particularly residential. It is a space if it is a chore, liability, cost, and/or dreaded. It is a space when it does not serve the owners wants
